Beer manufacturer Heineken made profits worldwide in 2016 and increased sales. Revenues rose 1.4 percent to 20.8 billion euros last year, compared to 20.5 billion euros last year, as evidenced by the annual figures presented by the company on Wednesday.

Beer sales increased by 188 million hectoliters last year to 200 million hectoliters by 3 percent. Autonomous growth was 4.8 percent, which last year was 3.5 percent. Net profit rose 2.5 percent to almost 2.1 billion euros.

Especially in Asia and South America, beer sales, especially Mexico and Vietnam, increased. In Asia, beer sales even increased by almost 18 percent. In Africa, the Middle East and Russia, on the other hand, it went a lot less well, especially with sales in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Heineken's largest market is still Europe, with a 0.7 percent growth.
Acquisitions

Heineken also expects to do good business in 2017, partly due to planned acquisitions in Brazil and the United Kingdom. This week it was known that Heineken wants to take over the activities of Japanese beer brewer Kirin in Brazil. If this acquisition continues, Heineken will be Brazil's second beer producer. Heineken also made a bid on the British publicly listed Punch Taverns pub chain last year.

In a statement, Heineken topman Jean-François van Boxmeer speaks of "strong results". According to Van Boxmeer, Heineken succeeds in staying successful because of a wide range of services. The spread around the world also makes it possible to catch disappointing results in Africa and Russia.
