Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac said they escaped unscathed by the recent security breach that hit auditing giant Deloitte.
As reported by IMFnews on Tuesday, Deloitte admitted that it was the target of a computer hack – now believed to be over – but not before compromising several email servers where its clients may have been affected.
The Guardian newspaper in the U.K. said Deloitte clients affected by the hack included Fannie and Freddie, but provided no details on what information might have been compromised.
Inquiries by IMFnews resulted in responses from the GSEs that all was well. “We are currently not aware of any impact to Freddie Mac as a result of the recent cyber incident,” a company spokesman said. “We are monitoring the situation closely, and we are working with Deloitte to understand what happened and what additional safeguards it may be considering. We take cybersecurity seriously as it relates to every aspect of our business.”
