My one experience of reporting a violator to the SEC went nowhere. In 2008 I learned a company I was working for was getting ready to do a pump & dump. I gave the SEC a six-week heads-up and complete details of who was going to do what to whom. Other than threatening to charge me, they did nothing to stop the pump & dump and a whole new crop of investors got fleeced. That was when Chris Cox was running the SEC but I doubt the outfit has gotten that much better.
