Take Dukester's scenario where Opteron and Power7 are competing for sockets, and that paints a different picture. Which was the point I was addressing.

It was pretty much a given that Sun would move Sparc to Opteron sockets, that writing has been on the wall for a while. Power7, however, is a surprise. Looks like this is IBM's way of saying goodbye to Xeon. I guess that spiffy chipset they did for Xeon hasn't worked out all that well...
