Good article. Would be nice to have a link to see the rest of the story. Isn't anyone else curious why the word "decommissioned" used in the TMPS PR?

But, I'll go you one better. Has anyone ever flown on any aircraft that was flown for 30 years before "retirement" to "flyable storage"?

For those playing along at home: Those planes were placed in service in 1984 and flown for 30 years or 2014.

How many miles are on those engines?
This snippet from Wikipedia may give us a clue:

The TriStar has also been used as a military tanker and passenger/cargo aircraft. The Royal Air Force had nine aircraft of four variants. The aircraft were six ex-British Airways and three Pan Am L-1011-500s.[46][47][48] All of the aircraft served with No. 216 Squadron, and were based at RAF Brize Norton. The Tristar was replaced in RAF service by the Airbus A330 MRTT under the Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft program.[49] 216 Squadron was officially disbanded on 20 March 2014 and flew its last sorties with the TriStar on 24 March 2014.[50]

Now, is everyone still so confident about this "definitive agreement"?

It's called a confidence game. Why? Because you give me your confidence? No. Because I give you mine. -House of Games (1987)
