Reason 1)
Joint venture with player SQM
Tom Hodgson, Chief Executive Officer of LAC, commented, "SQM is the world leader in lithium production with decades of development and operating experience and a strong team of technical and commercial talent. It also has a track record of success as a partner in many global joint ventures. One of the principal objectives of the Joint Venture is to leverage the technical experience of SQM to materially de-risk the development of Cauchari-Olaroz and to successfully advance the project to bring new supply to the market on a timely basis. Lithium plays an important strategic role in the energy revolution and it is critical that our industry respond by delivering more supply to meet increasing demand."

Reason 3)
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Jan 17, 2017) - Lithium Americas Corp. (LAC.TO)(LACDF) ("Lithium Americas" or the "Company") is pleased to announce it has signed an investment agreement (the "Investment Agreement") with GFL International Co., Ltd. ("Ganfeng") for funding to advance the construction of the Cauchari-Olaroz lithium project in Jujuy, Argentina. Pursuant to the Investment Agreement, Ganfeng has agreed to financing terms in an aggregate amount of US$174 million in exchange for 19.9% of the outstanding common shares of Lithium Americas pro-forma (the "Private Placement"); the right to buy a fixed portion of the lithium carbonate production from the Cauchari-Olaroz project (the "Offtake Entitlement"); and a US$125 million project debt facility (the "Project Debt Facility").

Reason 4) increasing demand for lithium powered electric cars. The more battery factories they build around the world the increased demand for lithium.

Reason 5) The demand for lithium in the power grid and utility sector is expected to exceed the demand for lithium used in battery production and in mobile devices combined by more than 30 fold.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has thrown her support behind a proposal to build a Tesla-style battery factory in Townsville.

Ms Palaszczuk said on Thursday she backed a Boston Energy-led consortium plan to build the $US1.6 billion ($A2.0 billion) lithium-ion manufacturing plant in the city.

Panasonic Corporation (OTC: PCRFY) on April 27 announced that it held an opening ceremony for a new automotive lithium-ion battery factory in Dalian, China. The factory is Panasonic's first automotive battery cell production site in China.

The company, which has offices in the ACT, Sydney and Darwin, claims the factory will be the Southern Hemisphere’s first facility producing semi-solid state lithium-ion batteries, which it says are uniquely optimised for warm climates.

The plant, to be named ‘Renaissance One’, is expected to have seven production lines – due to become operational in late 2018 – and looks likely to include rooftop solar panels, although no details on this aspect of the plant have been revealed.
