Ha - well you could use the dividend payments as a rough estimate of their earnings. The data is available but I don't think it matters here.

To correctly calculate this you would need to calculate the 10% interest for each quarter since the principal goes up/down each period. I hope that is what those quoting that it's almost paid off did... I may see if I can get quickbooks to do this for me as a double-check, but it's a moot point anyway.

BUT - in the popular media there would be some benefit to say that f&f have fully paid back all, and given the gov't a profit... I mean - why "fix" the GSE's when even in a downturn as serious as 2008 - the gov't made a profit. Why "fix" a money-maker? That's like "fixing" that champion race horse right before you hire him out for stud fees.
