Yes you're right, orally taken it should take roughly the same amount of time as other pain medications. So you match that SOC but why not go for the improved delivery time. Even if we take out the time difference, inhaling is still superior to orally ingested. Orally ingested THC (delta-9 thc) is metabolized by the liver into 11-hydroxy thc before it reaches your brain resulting in a far more psychedelic effect. Which is why I don't think it is appropriate for dosing for medical purposes (recreational, sure). Inhaled thc goes straight to the brain, but does eventually go through the liver on the second pass.
The most damning of all though is the fact that with orally ingested cannabis only 10-20 percent of the cannabinoids reach the blood plasma, opposed to 50-60 percent with inhaling. Good Article and Source
It is still an overdose my friend, this IS a drug we're talking about and your mind is a very real concern. Those predisposed to psychosis need to tread lightly or not at all.
