Imagine if you could invest in people the way you invest in companies. I suspect that some people who met people in their teens or earlier recognized that people like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs represented something special.

The thing is, recognizing certain forms of genius doesn't guarantee tremendous profits. In high school our valedictorian was Vinton Cerf, personally I hardly knew him, but everyone knew he'd do great things. He did, but not for a company per say, rather for all of us as he's acknowledged as the father of the internet, but he did it for the DOD. He got the Nobel Prize, and no doubt isn't hurting financially, but had he taken a different turn, could he have been a Bill Gates, we'll really never know.

I suspect that some people who knew Bill Gates, or Steve Jobs, or many others who've had tremendous success did invest a little when they started fledgling companies, and they're now wealthy. Much the same can be said of employees who went to work for Sam Waldman early in the development of Walmart, as they all received stock.

The point is, you never know when you're lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. It could easily take years to really know if our involvement in OWCP was a matter of being at the right place at the right time, or not.
