This is a must read. Thanks for making those calls and sharing. Especially liked your mention of anyone can start a channel ($100/month I believe) ala Wayne's World: http://www.vivalivetv.com/broadcasting_properties

This could get interesting in time as it's akin to the self-publishing revolution. Sure, self-broadcasters won't compete with CNN, Fox or ESPN, but channels like Jenny 160 will make a name for themselves and create new stars, some on a global level

Just for grins I called several cable companies.

I'll lay it out:

Every Frontline CSR I spoke with has heard of VIVALIVETV surprisingly.

All of them (the companies) are going to OT, but they are still going to be about the same price of cable once you're through adding all the bundles.

They are super limited on contracts with broadcasters, hence the multiple packages to get say only two channels you watch.

They were willing to knock each other down (existing cable company to other cable company, but interesting, not VIVA)

They don't offer broadcasting services without some really intense corporate negotiations and not available to retail. VIVA, any one anytime for a few bucks can start there own broadcast.

They all agreed implicitly, that markets for them mostly limited to the US.

It appears there was no hostility toward VIVA. In fact several CSRs said, they couldn't come close to price match you can get with VIVA for any of VIVA's packages. Even the freebies you get with VIVA for downloading app (eg 5 science channels, a bunch of old but goodies, some movies, UFC 24/7, a bunch of foreign channels, our beloved Miami TV channels, a bunch of VOD, etc etc etc - for free)

The only thing they kept harping on was Local Channels and DVR. As far as local channels, most cities you can get them HD. Just need to buy a 20 dollar adapter. As far as DVR, I believe that's in the making right now with VIVA, either cloud based and/or their box. But, a techie could still figure that out - not going into details on that one.

VIVA is getting respect and acknowledgement from the big ones.

Just some observations.
