In the U.S. for sure because it is extremely difficult to do scientific studies.

Years ago a very angry chemistry professor was told by a biotech that it was finally abandoning a synthetic cannabis drug the professor had patented.

The drug had shown great promise in early experimentation, most prominently in Germany, that indicated it might be particularly useful ameliorating the very long-lasting crippling pain veterans are particularly vulnerable to because of combat injuries.

"Just too hard to manufacture it," said the CEO backed up by a pair of
engineers - one being the appointed CSO [Chief Scientific Officer] as best I can recall.

The red-faced, weary professor, standing next to his wife with a worried look, reported he easily whipped up batches in his lab.

Might have been able to use a batch later if it was smokeable or edible - both of them.

I mentioned it might also be useful treating brain cancer. Even the prof had to smile at that as the confrontation broke up on a bit of a happy note.

As the cognescenti are aware now, I wasn't just indicating I was a pothead.

Never smoked a joint in my life, in case anyone cares. Bet nearly all the deniers have.
