You don't have to guess which way a consolidation pattern will break- I watch and see for when the bid and ask swap back and forth aggressively, say between 1.13-1.14, 1.13-1.14 etc...then if it breaks upward 1.15-1.16, 1.20- that's when I buy- then let the volume determine how far and how long the stock can be traded from there....
