Lived in the Midwest. Great grandparents were farmers and none of them fought in the Civil war, they were too busy on their farms. They spoke German and lived in a rural area. They knew a little about the war but wanted no part of it.
Mom and dad were married 51 yrs. Not unusual for their generation.
