If Tom was a captain of a merchant ship, and this board was his crew, he would first be admired and celebrated throughout the nation, then made to walk the plank. Later it would be found out, that those who pushed him off the board into the ocean, were disgruntled ship-hands who felt they could run the ship better. While Tom drown in the swirling waters below land would be sited, and riches would be uncovered in the island's caves. Those ship-hands apologized later for having bad tempers saying, 'yes its a problem at home too with the lady old lady and my 9 boys', and then they slung gold chains around their own necks.
