Government loves the idea of blockchain technology because of all the cash transactions that are occurring without being taxed. They are imagining the amount of additional tax money they will be able to collect once the currency is digital(i.e. FEDcoin) and each transaction is recorded. There are government groups studying the use of blockchain technology for various reasons. I'm sure collection of tax revenue is a major focus.
