"The current CEO, Sonny Bal, is a stereotypical arrogant surgeon (oh no - not even a spine surgeon) who has no clue how to run a company. He fires anyone who doesn't agree with him, has no strategy for the company and only puts in a few hours a week since he's too busy 1- with his hip & knee practice, 2- with his "expert witness" business and 3- getting his PhD so he can add another few letters at the end of his name. He has studied and learned the science behind silicon nitride but that's what the CTO and the other scientists are for. A CEO should be an expert in, and focused on, running the business, but Dr. Bal likely wouldn't even know the brand name of Amedica's products if he was asked.

Since the CEO isn't a leader, the culture isn't the greatest. Sensitive information, like people's salaries, high level business decisions, etc. used to be discussed casually amongst employees (not sure if it's still like this). Lack of leadership has led to a lot of reactive decisions rather than strategic.

I truly hope the board wakes up and puts a proven leader at the helm. Not another self-interested CEO trying to make their money back (which they invested early in the company's history) by floating along at a $400k salary while they continue to damage the business. Or one who has the company build him a heated garage for his car (former CEO) while making bad decision after bad decision. Etc."
