Forward splits do not require that the original shares be recalled - they just give out additional shares and adjust the price. Reverse is totally different, and I've been through several, and the stock ticker is always renamed. Sometimes, it is just numbers, others they add the D. On ICLD, I had both numbers and renamed ICLD shares, all in etrade, but different portfolios.
