August 4-The Light In August has fascinated me ever since childhood. The intense heat of July has passed, but the long days continue, with mornings just cool enough for comfort accompanied by thoughts of afternoon activities. Yeah, if you're a kid and can stand an afternoon of sandlot baseball under the sun.

I spent most of the morning clearing out the last of exhausted cucumber vines, plus a little clearing of some cantanloupe vines, pulling the Japanese eggplant no one seems to want. Tomorrow I will amend with manure and plant more cuke seeds.

Jack, the estimator, left for Statesville with 3 jars of pickled mild peppers. I need to buy more jars from Harvey's supermarket to pickle more peppers this weekend.

Also this weekend I will make a bunch of newspaper cups to start more brassicas. The first seedlings, two of which pooped on me, have spread their wings.

The Nasdaq's third tier, the AMEX can be just as bad, and last but not least, the OTC, it seems, are financial venues that reward failure.
