to an extent yes but for example today, the stock was around 1.94 x 1.95 most of the day and then it shot up to over $2 the last minute which has been the case for the last several days. you'd have to buy a decent amount of shares and raise the bid/ask to cause it to jump like that. it would be one thing if the spread most of the day was 1.95 x 2.05 and then someone bought a 100 shares at the end to make sure it closed at the high. in this case, the spread is not like that until the last minute.
