Victory against Jeff Sessions! NORML Nation,

You did it.

After tens of thousands of emails and phone calls, the Senate Appropriations Committee did something they have never done before -- they passed the Rohrabacher-Blumenauer amendment on a voice vote, simply meaning that our opponents are not even willing to put their name behind their outdated opposition.

On the same day that it was expected the Attorney General Jeff “Good People Don’t Smoke Marijuana” Sessions was expected to make an announcement changing the Justice Department’s stance towards legalization, he stayed silent and the Senate delivered him a defeat.

Mind you, this is after Sessions had personally lobbied members of both the House and the Senate, and penned a letter to congressional leadership specifically against Rohrabacher-Blumenauer.

But together, our voices were louder than his. You made your demands heard and Washington politicians’ realized it was in their best interest to protect our progress. While there are still a few procedural hurdles left to overcome to ensure this amendment is renewed for the next year, we are confident that it will be incorporated into the final language of the bill.

Today, we can bask in this temporary victory. Tomorrow, we redouble our effort to reform laws from city councils to state houses, and yes, even in the United States Congress.
