I think the issue with Garfield Go as evidenced by the negative articles about the game is that it is a less refined, entertaining version of Pokemon and does not offer anything new, exciting or better than Pokemon did so it just comes across as a poorly created derivitive of Pokemon Go

the only thing they could do was to add real money prizes in the hopes to attract people, this has cause the people he play AR games to not care.

And the comparions to Angry Birds are comical, why would this app be used to market the movie, why not use any of the other Garfield apps that have significantly more downloads than this one
