ICE Agents Just Made History Less Than 6 Months After Trump Took Office

Of all of the federal departments where a stark difference between the Obama and Trump administrations can be noted, few can claim a change quite as dramatic as Immigration and Customs Enforcement — and ICE has the arrests to prove it.

On Wednesday, ICE made history when it announced that it had captured its 400th international fugitive of the year back on June 8. In all of 2016, ICE statistics show that the agency caught a total of 406 fugitives. That means the agency is on a pace to double its arrests from the last full year of the Obama administration.

The 2017 total also accounts for almost a quarter of the 1,700 foreign fugitives that the Enforcement and Removal Operations wing of ICE has caught since 2009.

“ERO’s 400th foreign fugitive arrest of the year was Rafael Alberto-Burgos, a 43-year-old national of the Dominican Republic and citizen of Spain, wanted by Spanish authorities for homicide,” ICE’s statement read. “Alberto-Burgos is suspected to have participated in the 1997 murder of his ex-girlfriend, whose remains were found on a Barcelona highway.

“Alberto-Burgos was admitted to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program in 1997 and remained in the United States beyond his authorized period of admission.
In 2000, Spanish authorities issued an arrest warrant for Alberto-Burgos, and in 2015, the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) issued a Red Notice for his arrest on behalf of Spain.”

Then, in February, new information led authorities to believe that Alberto-Burgos was living in the New York City area, a haven for illegal aliens. Several months later, ICE moved in and got its man.

“On June 8, 2017, ERO New York arrested Alberto-Burgos without incident outside his place of employment in Manhattan, ending his more than ten-year run from authorities, and he was issued a Visa Waiver Program administrative removal order,” the statement read. “ERO removed Alberto-Burgos from the United States and turned him over to Spanish authorities on July 11, 2017.”

According to ICE, the majority of the arrests that ICE has made this year have been in six states: New York, Texas, California, Florida, Arizona and New Jersey.
Shocker of shockers, the first four states mentioned are also the four states with the most illegal immigrants, and all six are in the top 10.

Of those apprehended, most stood accused or had been convicted of violent crimes, including 121 wanted for homicide, 35 for sex crimes, 18 for assault and 13 for kidnapping.

“ICE works hard every day to protect the American public,” said Matthew Albence, the executive associate director of ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, according to The Daily Caller. “Our mission to remove dangerous fugitive criminals from the United States will never cease.”
