08:59 AM EDT, 07/21/2017 (MT Newswires) -- Stock futures were trading lower into Friday's open with Wall Street turning cautious after recent record highs and in sympathy with selling pressure across Europe associated with the strengthening euro.
Developments in Washington were also dampening the mood on Wall Street as political pundits expect President Trump to look for ways to remove special counsel Robert Mueller before firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions as questions about the president's business dealing are scrutinized.
Oil futures were lower again Friday as news of production gains by members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries weighs on the commodity. Domestic benchmark West Texas intermediate was nearly 1% lower at $46.53 per barrel.
Earnings will come into sharper focus as investors digest mixed quarterly results from General Electric(GE) , Microsoft(MSFT) and Honeywell(HON) . General Electric's(GE) lower Q2 sales beat expectations, while Microsoft's(MSFT) cloud service revenue fueled better-than-expected Q2 earnings.
There is no major economic news scheduled for Friday except the Baker-Hughes (BHGE) oil rig count at 1:00pm ET.
