I don't see it being possible w/ an outstanding, old note hanging over their heads. I simply, just don't.

That would be like "putting the cart in front of the horse", right?
Not too much different than me trying to renegotiate my mortgage to a much better rate while still having a $20K credit card hanging out there I haven't been able to pay more than the minimum on each month for the past two years.
Wouldn't happen unless I got one of those 'fancy' debt consolidation loans/mortgages. Then, guess what? After I did that, if I could,...
I would have no more old credit card 'note'/payment due next month!
