If GPRO were to be taken private, it would have to be done through a share purchase...at whatever per share price the buyer was willing to pay and could get holders to sell for. Don't hold your breath though, as there aren't too many people interested in buying out an unprofitable company which exists in a niche market.
Shares only go up in smoke if a company goes bankrupt, and the court cancels the shares.
