David has accomplished something, Glass House Graphics. Benny is the one that hasn't been successful.
There can be a whole host of reasons why Benny hasn't had success (bad business sense, no ability to long range plan or plan at all, inability to effectively multi-task, etc). He appears to be a decent writer, but doesn't fully capitalize off of it. REDG needs a good business person (who understands the market) running it.
The PowFolio app works well, for the most part. I don't think the "Trending" and "chat" functions work well. While there is some good content on it, much of it is hard to find. I think it could be a big deal, if, REDG gave it some low/no cost marketing. I haven't opened the app in over a month. A message board format should have been used instead of chat. It would retain recommendations and allow people to talk about comics, without having to do it real-time. It would be a better way to build a community around the app.
I like REDG having a publishing business, but I don't like the idea of them going monthly, with lower cost comics. It will be hard for REDG/Absolute to break into comic book stores without well known IP in their books. I also think Benny will have problems keeping to a monthly publishing schedule. I would rather see lower cost trade paperbacks/graphic novels. Part of the story could be free on PowFolio, prompting people to buy the book to read the whole story. There is less buy-in for people to try, before buying. It might also get more people using PowFolio (in turn getting more publishers putting better content on it).
