This is pure speculation but my guess is that the firm was being investigated and they had to resign from any accounting of public firms. The below links to the disciplinary action from the PCAOB dated April 2016. Surely they were being looked at for several months prior to this release so the timing seems to make sense to me.

I'm not sure how long the company acted as Arrayit's auditors (need to go back and research yet) but I get the feeling that everything they may have done was now called into question which necessitated the current audit of a couple of years' worth of financials.

I'm no expert in accounting so this is just my best guess. I don't think it was a matter of the firm resigning because of any perceived mis-management by Arrayit. Think it was the opposite although I could see why someone would question it.
