I think the real reason was that Exxon knew they would have to partner with ERHC and they wanted no part of that. That proved to be a wise decision. Subsequently, the raid and SEC investigation of ERHC began and every one of ERHCs original partners bailed out. Of course Exxon was blamed for that investigation which is absurd.

Since then no other US company has wanted anything to do with ERHC. And I seriously doubt they want to now either. Once you burn all those bridges with all those top notch exploration companies it is difficult to rebuild them.

That awful decision in the JDZ of dissing Noble, Exxon, Chevron, Anadarko and Devon has haunted ERHC ever since. One only needs to look at the failures of the partners ERHC ended up with to see how big a mistake that was. No way those other companies would have drilled 5 dry holes in the JDZ.

And anyone who still believes there is oil in the JDZ should admit that. But some still won't.
