We don't know that the "company was obviously ran by a bunch of morons" or that "a billionaire with a 'flawless' resume and reputation" will remain flawless.

We also don't know that a billionaire who was given shares just to erase debt (typical wall street bailout) can save this particular company.

All we know is that since he owns all those shares, he won't talk trash against the company. Also, someone with a billion dollars loses nothing if his 6.2 million goes down the drain. The guy has nothing to lose with this company and every reason to experiment.
