Japanese automaker girding for tougher environmental rules
TOKYO -- Honda Motor, which plans to release an electric vehicle in the Chinese market next year, is expected to produce it locally.
The Japanese carmaker aims to have a wide lineup of electric offerings, including plug-in hybrids, as China moves to implement stricter environmental regulations.
The planned electric vehicle will be assembled at a plant owned by a joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group.
Honda may also produce plug-in hybrids and other electric vehicles when a venture with Dongfeng Motor Group begins operating a new plant in 2019.
