Bob it really doesn't matter if MS is dead.
There is only one thing that kills MS. That would be a strain better than MS.
Since it is exactly the same process it doesn't matter what the name is.

Let's say DS comes back as not good enough for ballistics for the army.
It's still the toughest silk on the planet.

VN just produces DS for Nike or whoever.

The silk we make has names to designate properties it could be considered a part number.
We have many different part numbers created with the same process. If one becomes inferior it's discontinued.

I am willing to bet that the MS we had in 2012 is inferior to the MS we have now.
The strain has been improved and "replaced" many times IMO.

So don't let the MS is dead line is a waste of time
