I guess the misinformed rants again...

The problem with the energy storage ideas, whether it is Tesla or SunRun, is that the cost of the storage capacity is so astronomically high as to be ludicrous for homeowners. It costs more to store a Kwh than to produce it. Sometimes as much as double.

If one looks at the long run, the net cost of producing and then storing one's own electricity so you can go off the grid completely is beyond reason. the cost would be easily between 200% and 300% of simply staying on the grid ... or using the "net metering" system.

SunRun is going back into Nevada. But, it just shows that the entire solar sector is economically unfeasible without massive Government subsidies.

Let me tell you a little story... A while ago, a man bought out a utility company thinking it was losing money and he was going to turn it around and make a lot of money in the meantime. After all, utility companies generally have the run of the state sponsorships and approvals in increases that are so called "reasonable".

Well, this man was smart. He also backed up the other man running for governor... and he won. Imagine that. Well a short time later, the governor appoints his PUC board... which controls all the utilities in that state by regulating use, installs, reductions, additions, pay or rate increases, and the list goes on.

Well, the utility company was aghast with how much alternate energy companies were over running areas in their district, they decided to play dirty by raising what they called Net Metering rates. So much that homeowners could not save money nor alternate energy companies make money.

So all the alternate energy companies involved formed a coalition to band against this greedy war mongering utility company by petitioning in front of their glorious castle on west sahara ave... but to no avail. Customers were upset, alternate energy workers and companies were upset, everyone was upset but to no avail.

So the alternate energy companies packed their bags and left the state. No one could beat this regime of manipulators, they were just too strong.

However, there were lawsuits filed against this utility company, the PUC board which the governor appointed, the governor, and the staunch wise investor. Many thought it would take years to go to court and many hearings...

In the meantime, the board realized their errors and a new PUC board appointed, one more alternate energy friendly. The governor recently signed into law allowing solar to re-enter the state and the march has begun to reenter the kingdom of the vicious and do battle once again.

Yes, the state is Nevada. The wise oracle, Warren Buffet. The governor, Sandoval.

Yes, this story is true and very real.

Some don't even know about solar + storage... but that is why I am here to educate the uneducated.

Storage by itself is expensive. MSRP about $5000 per. But Sunrun offers Solar + Storage and they pay for it. So if they pay for installing that system, how expensive is it? They will also replace the battery at year 10 as well as replace any faulty equipment during the life of the contract. So some who claim to know what they think is real, do not know the whole story because they do not do their DD as they should.

Another part of stupid talk is:

If one looks at the long run, the net cost of producing and then storing one's own electricity so you can go off the grid completely is beyond reason. the cost would be easily between 200% and 300% of simply staying on the grid ... or using the "net metering" system.

The utility company can only charge you a connection fee if you are not drawing any power from the grid. true.

The system produces energy and it goes into the inverter that convers 12v to 110v household current. With NET metering, the excess energy then goes through a Net meter to measure the amount of energy that is going back into the grid. At night when the system is not producing energy, the grid then supplies the home with energy that it had produced during the day and it is then measure against itself. So there is an exchange going back and forth. Usually most homeowners use more energy during the day than at night. Having a surplus will give the homeowner savings.

True if there is a 1 - 1 Net meter program, it makes sense to stay with the grid, because you will or usually make money based on the above. However, you can over use power and be charged at the going rate.

Now the storage system works differently. A great example is Hawaii.
HECO (Hawaiian Electric Co) closed the Net Meter Program and the CGS (Customer Grid Supply) in March of 2016. Shortly after closing that system(s), HECO declared the only way to go solar is with storage. Their mentality is almost assinine in logic as they now realize they will be losing revenue and if solar becomes bigger and more people go solar, they will have to look for other means of revenue or raise the rates exorbitantly.

So here is how it works.

the system creates energy, it goes to the inverter and then, instead of going to the grid, goes and charges their battery. At night when the system does not produce energy it draws energy from their battery, usually at night when less power is being used.

You might not realize this but Sunrun is also partnered with LG Chem as well as Tesla (which imo will break off relations once they finish their contract).

LG Chem is a Korean company that is well known for their electronics and appliances sales... well the parent company LG. LG Chem manufactures the lithium ion batteries. Founded in 1947, they started their Lithium Ion business in 1995. They supply batteries for cell phones, computers, and every conceivable item that uses batteries, to include 16 out of the 21 major car manufacturers... Chevy Volt, Hyundai Sonata and a host of others. imo a more reliable battery than Tesla... you don't hear about any cars with their batteries going up in flames, do you?

In any case, you can listen to those who know nothing but need attention or do your own DD and find out the real truth.

Now you know the rest of the story...
