Dimension has its own patents that sprouted from the Vdk 2.0 tech they are licensed for, any remaining Iterated patents aren't really relevant anymore.

Dimension has re-patented Iterated's old expired patents with a few minor tweaks. They are worthless. All someone has to do is write code according to the original expired patents, or add their own tweaks and they have nothing to worry about.

The problems is writing video codecs from scratch costs millions which is why the "Dentist" is desperate to get his hands on VDK2, even if its non Fractal code. VDK2 is the story he's been telling for the past 17 years because in 2000 he didn't know any better and took the VDK2 bait. The "Dentist" was duped.
