Doctors give out medication all the time not knowing if it's going to work or what your side effects will be, everyone's body is different. But you still go to the doctor, correct? They know it works from doing tests and studies, but pathogens do evolve. Testing will continue because these pathogens can evolve to fight back. Just like every year you have to get a flu shot; that's because the flu virus evolves and old flu medication won't work.
