Hasn't happened to me, what kind of speakers?

If you are talking about a laptop, did you have to flex or press on any area to reach the 1/8" plug? A strange connection between wires or solder points can happen when you bend or flex laptops.

If it's a USB speaker, there could be some kind of device conflict.

Certainly weird and frustrating, I'm sure!
