After further research I found out that I made a miss calculation on my share count. I used AT&T inc historical stock share price and dividends instead of AT&T corp stock price and dividends. I also found out that in 1984 the government made AT&T corp split (Totally forgot about the break up) into 7 different companies which in turn spun off even more companies. Check out this link below and follow the flow chart of how many splits mergers spin-offs they had. Click on the left side and you will see just how many pin offs there were.(old AT&T and New AT&T) So far Edward Jones did one of their certificates (50 shares of Texaco from 1978) which is now owned by Chevron corp. That one was worth $ 90,000. They had a cert for 100 shares of Continental oil and another one of 200 shares of Phillips Petroleum which merged in 2001 and became Conoco/Phillips which spun off Phillips 66 in 2004. That one should be worth a mint. Edward Jones said it would take some extra time to figure out the AT&T cert do to so many spin-offs and mergers, but when its all said and done will post the results here. They had a total of 10 different stock certificates from 1978. Another big one was Union Carbide which turned into Dow Chemical.
