June 5-A muggy day, but not truly hot. It was enough to slow me down in the afternoon. I left early before another late afternoon storm. So far this season, the total rainfall is about 5 inches above norm in Zone 7b. What a difference from last season.

I've picked 3 Japanese long purple eggplant. They're not gigantic but they will do fine served on anybody's plate. The Rosa Bianca plant have produce fruit, but none are visible yet. Obviously one difference between these two varieties is time to maturity.

More blossoms have appeared on the Polish Model melons. The other 2 varieties farthest along have produced blossoms. Will the pollinators find them. I'm noticing more honeybees. The first Moon & Stars watermelon hill has started to vine. Blossoms should appear soon.

I noticed the first Purple Finch, a male, sitting on a fence next to the driveway. He'll soon be busy collecting sunflower seeds. The first ones have produced a bud. They're Valentines and will produce side shoots that will also produce blooms. The zinnias have also produced buds.

CC the Calico Cat likes to nap under the stand of asparagus. Dreama managed to record an image this morning.

Old Cadillacs never die. The finance company take 'em and faaaaade 'em away.
