In 1975, Paul Ehrlich predicted that “since more than nine-tenths of the original tropical rainforests will be removed in most areas within the next 30 years or so, it is expected that half of the organisms in these areas will vanish with it.”

But for sheer vivid lunacy, nothing matches this Good Morning America report from 2008:

The images show Manhattan shrinking against the onslaught of the rising seas — in 2015. Last year. Gasoline was supposed to be $9 per gallon. Milk would cost almost $13 per gallon. Wildfires would rage, hurricanes would strike with ever-greater intensity. By the end of the clip, I was expecting to see the esteemed Doctors Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, and Ray Stantzstep forward to predict, “Rivers and Seas boiling!” “Forty years of darkness!” And of course the ultimate disasters: “Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together . . . Mass hysteria!”

Kenneth Watt warned about a pending Ice Age in a speech. “The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years,” he declared. “If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age.”

Holdren predicted that a billion people would die in “carbon-dioxide induced famines” as part of a new “Ice Age” by the year 2020.

Ehrlich, a professor at Stanford University, similarly claimed in a 1971 speech at the British Institute for Biology, “By the year 2000 the United Kingdom will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people.”
He added, “If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000 and give ten to one that the life of the average Briton would be of distinctly lower quality than it is today.”

To stave off the allegedly impending ecological disasters, the two alarmists demanded the implementation of “solutions.”
In the book Ecoscience, the duo pushed a “planetary regime” to control resources, as well as forced abortions and sterilization to stop overpopulation, including drugging water and food supplies with sterilizing agents.

Mini ice age likely from 2030 to 2040, European scientists say

A team of European researchers unveiled last week a scientific model showing that the Earth is likely to experience a “mini ice age” from 2030 to 2040 as a result of decreased solar activity.

In a presentation at the National Astronomy Meeting 2015 in Wales, Northumbria University professor Valentina Zharkova said discrepancies in the sun’s 11-year cycle can be explained more accurately with what she described as a “double dynamo” model.

Based on the model, she predicted the two magnetic waves will cancel each other out in about 2030, leading to a drop in sunspots and solar flares of about 60 percent.

Astronomy Now summed up the findings with the headline, “The two-hearted Sun beckons new ‘mini ice-age,’” while a Daily [U.K.] Mail article said, “Scientists warn the sun will ‘go to sleep’ in 2030.”

“In cycle 26, the two waves exactly mirror each other, peaking at the same time but in opposite hemispheres of the Sun. We predict that this will lead to the properties of a ‘Maunder minimum,’” Ms. Zharkova said at the meeting, as reported by the Royal Astronomical Society.
