ney_eve,

anyone having trouble getting to aces?

Yup. In fact, I had a lot of trouble connecting to anything.

OT.

I just had an embarrasing call to my ISP's tech support (my first one to my cable ISP). I insisted that their DNS servers are down. I couldn't ping them, and they would not resolve any URLs. I could browse by IP, but not by URL.

I got to some dude who actually had brains (as opposed to people following scripts - I refused to speak to them). It turned out that my router is causing the problems, everything worked fine when I connected directly. (The humbling part is that one of the script reading dummies would eventually be able to get to root of the problem - well, maybe)

When I connected directly (not through the router), I got a different set of DNS servers (which are set to detect / auto configure on my network card) than before. I can ping the new ones, they resolve everything just fine.

So now I just have to find some way to reconfigure my router (for which I can't find the manual, IP addresses or passwords). Oh well...

It is still weird that the router didn't reconfigure itself. It is one of the very popular Linksys home routers / switches.

I guess the problem could be that the router may not have a feature to autodetect, or, I typed the DNS servers manually, and the ISP just changed them...

Joe

Of course I first thought it was one the latest worm that was affecting me. After I eliminated that, I thought it affected my ISP. Actually, maybe it did affect the ISP, and they changed their DNS servers as a result.
