Followup- did a little digging and found that all hard assets affected, makes one wonder about all the comments I have been hearing that this is a seasonably strong period for demand, seems indian demand on hold until Sept 23- check out this qoute

"In fact, the Shardh period brings a slowdown for most of the markets in India, as Hindus are usually unwilling to buy assets. The fortnight creates an adverse impact on almost all the major markets of consumer durables, assets and real estate throughout the country. Says Anuj Puri, MD, Chesterton Meghraj:“This phase sees a dip in the sales from two wheelers, and cars to gold and real estate, most of the people in India keep away from buying these assets.

This is because if we go to a shopkeeper for buying a consumer durable, the shopkeeper would not refuse the buyer during the shradh period, but if a buyer wants to buy a property, there is every chance that the landlord would convey his apathy for selling his property during this period. As a consequence, the property markets be it residential, commercial, retail or land, face problems pertaining to minimal or no transactions during this period.”

Adds T Chakrabarti, head, India Property Research: “The Shradhs do mean a temporary stillness in the property transaction volumes, but what is interesting is the pick up thereafter, which continues right from Dushhera to Diwali.”
