The goal is to get GDP as high as possible. Trump's people claim they can achieve 3%+ growth when all their policies kick in. IMO they'll never get there, because I don't think most of his policies will be enacted. I don't really think 2% growth is going to be sustainable because the Fed is trying to raise rates into what they claim to be accelerating growth. I don't see it.

The Fed's inflation target is 2%, that may be what you're thinking about. GDP growth needs to be higher than 2%, something closer to 3% would be very good IMO.
