Pull up a logarithmic chart for at least 5 years and you'll see that this volatility isn't unusual. If anything, the past 4 years - although nearly straight down - have been very steady in comparison to the prior decade. (stockcharts.com will let you go back as far as you wish.) You can also see the true magnitude of the recent run-up.
