The missing silk ...

I asked Ben for more information about why the low yield from the silk sent out for reeling.

Quote:
Me: Can you provide any more details about what happened to produce the low yield?

Quote:
Ben: It was something completely different. Because Dragon Silk employs a different strain of silkworms, than which are commonly used in that country, Kraig Labs' cocoons were smaller than their calibration setting. They told Jon that when they attempted to process the cocoons their machines were unable to properly pick up the cocoon ends and the waste factor became much higher than the original, and reasonable, calculations.

A fixable problem different from any suggested by members of the board, including yours truly. Presumably the next round of reeling will produce a higher yield.

I think you are correct that it was an assumption. But not as big of an assumption from Kim and Jon as it was the reeler. I know that if I worked with a specialty product every single day (as I assume the reeler does) I could feel the difference in my hand just by holding the new cocoons. It would feel foreign to me in my hands.

Maybe we can assign blame for Kim assuming they would measure all dimensions of the silk cocoon (height, length, weight, etc) before the first run.

Or maybe, just maybe, the reeler WAS told of the different size in cocoons, but since they've never processed smaller cocoons before, they didn't realize it would effect their process. This mistake could have been done by almost any reeler or expert in that region since there really hasn't been a benefit to processing smaller cocoons in that region for a long time, IMO.

But I think it is very far fetched to believe that the reeler wouldn't have noticed a difference in size, regardless of if Kim or Jon notified them or not.

I'm not trying to go out of my way just to defend Kim, but I think people should check themselves before they start saying things like "this is 100% Kim's fault"

Thanks
