SC, Thanks, I'll check out those tools. I have Malwarebytes but not their 'Pro' version. I hadn't heard of Zonealarm, Avast, or CCleaner but will check them out.
I started using Malwarebytes several years ago after talking to an IT specialist who runs larger computer networks, and it's worked well up until recently. The recent problem coincided with that global ransomware virus, so maybe it's related.
The fact that the ransomware event reportedly exploits a vulnerability in Windows that was originally put there by the NSA makes me suspicious. The whole thing could be used to justify putting more of the Internet into the hands of a global body, like they did last year when the domain name system was transferred to a UN related organization.
Snowden's 'revelations' about the corrupt nature of NSA surveillance conveniently paved the way for that transfer. 'Global problems requiring global solutions' has long been a rationale used for building up world governmental structures like the UN, IMF, WTO, WHO, etc.
