Photonics > USA government money > Through calculations performed by the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAVAIR) and a review of our technology by top engineers at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), government scientists predicted that our material designs would perform 300% to 1,000% better than the competition two years before our first materials were produced. We proved out these calculations, demonstrating a 700% improvement.
Government Cultivated Technology
Lightwave got its start within the Defense Advanced Project Agency's (DARPA) Super Molecular Photonics program. The Super Molecular Photonics program is an exploratory effort to demonstrate that engineered molecular "Nano -Systems" can achieve spectacular increases in optical non -linearity. Specifically, high performance electro-optic materials leading to greater than 100x reduction in operating voltages for RF light wave modulation, and new classes of photorefractive materials which will result in greater than 1000x increase in bandwidth and efficiency in all -optical systems, will be developed. Material performance will be validated in hardened devices suitable for commercialization and insertion in military systems.
