Honestly, not a joke. I live in the U.S. where international news coverage is pretty poor. I wish I had a real-time International Herald Tribune handy.

I was trying to figure out what HK news you were referring to -- perhaps a better guess is the terrorism threat alert. I had to go to the South China Morning Post site for that news -- it's nowhere to be found on CNN, NYTimes, WashPost, etc.

And, for the record, I don't think the crackdown on democracy protesters is completely unrelated to the election of HK's new mayor, er, chief executive.
