Yeah the short play was very obvious and each time he bought more ships with cash on hand you knew another R/S was coming so it became a very low risk short play at that...

And yeah that is unbelievable the PPS drop in just over a year and how much longs have lost here...
It is also an indictment on how our financial markets work and what is legal versus what is "fair", "just", etc etc
What GE has done here "should" be criminal, however I wouldn't expect any changes in laws protecting against this behavior anytime soon especially under the new administration that wants to cut financial regulations and the regulators budgets...
