There is certainly one solid reason why he would be concerned about shorts. If he has any plans on issuing more shares into the market in order to raise capital, then obviously he would want a higher share price when he does it. I'm not saying that he plans on doing that, only he knows for sure. But it could be a clue as to why he is concerned.
