I just don't see it, CF. Not to say it couldn't happen, but it makes no sense to wind them down and start new companies that do the same thing. I'm sure the Bob Corkers and Jeb Hensarlings of the world would love it, but nothing Mnuchin has said so far has me worried.
I hope I'm wrong.
One of the possibilities I think about is they might consider it easier to let a new entity be created through provisions of HERA in order to wipe commons for the purpose of IPO'ing a new class of shares that will raise capital for the companies. Mnuchin's denial of saying "release" is concerning to me. He blatantly said that he wanted to release the companies and is now saying he didn't say that. Technically, he didn't use the word "release", but it's clear that when he stated he wants to get them out of governments hands, everybody took that for release. If he wants to argue semantics, fine; but that game usually only produces one winner.
