OK so here is what we know for sure about the timing:
(1) O-S published the "C&D" letter before he had any confirmation that it was authentic, see his post #61897 at 1:12PM on 9/1/06.
(2) A few minutes later, about 1:31 PM, O-S received a retraction
post which may or may not be genuine. We will know by 8:30AM tomorrow what is what
